On Thursday, I stood with Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling and other local officials to announce that the City will invest in a Mental Health Gap Analysis of young people in our community. This research will help identify the most pressing issues and will allow us to develop an action plan that benefits everyone.

The Connecticut Youth Employment Program is an initiative designed to help young people ages 14 to 24 explore careers by providing opportunities to work alongside professionals who assist them in building career networks and receive on-the-job training while also covering participant salaries and other job-related expenses, such as uniforms and transportation to and from work.

August is Black Business Month! It's the perfect time to recognize and support Black-owned businesses for their vital contributions to the economy. Make a conscious effort to shop from these businesses, whether it's retail, restaurants, or services. Share your experiences on social media, use hashtags like #BlackBusinessMonth, and leave positive reviews to boost their visibility.

Earlier this week, I traveled down to Baltimore for the Council of State Governments
Eastern Regional Conference's (CSG) annual meeting. This forum is an opportunity for state level politicians to meet and discuss policy issues - over 500 government officials from over the country were in attendance. I had the honor of participating in a housing panel and also met Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

This summer, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, is collaborating with state and local law enforcement and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), to launch a high-visibility anti-speeding enforcement campaign. The campaign aims to increase awareness and promote safer driving behaviors with increased speed limit enforcement. The campaign will run through September 5.

Last Saturday, the Connecticut NAACP held a ceremony to celebrate the 100 most influential Blacks in the state. It was was an honor to be listed alongside so many talented, smart and innovative Black individuals who have worked hard to make Connecticut great.
