On this week's Rollin' with Rep. Nolan, I was joined by Maya Sheppard, executive director of Hearing Youth Voices, a group that organizes with young people for social justice change, and Mirna Martinez, executive director of Southeastern Connecticut Community Land Trust, a nonprofit that holds land in trusts for greater community purposes like community spaces, affordable home ownership, growing food, and open space.

This week on Rollin with Rep Nolan I visited SCADD (Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug) Dependence, Inc. SCADD provides comprehensive screenings for substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Beginning June 24, 2024, the NLPS Child Nutrition Program will be distributing free meals to children ages 18 years and younger Monday-Friday throughout the City of New London! I had the great opportunity to visit UConn Avery Point with State Representative Aundré Bumgardner this week to talk with and hear from the UConn Board of Trustees members, senior leadership and campus leaders. They highlighting some of the exciting things happening at Avery Point along with the great things going on with academics and research.

I was thrilled to see New London receive millions in funding from the State Bonding Commission today.

The funding approved today will have incredible long-term benefits for our town, enhancing our children’s schools, attracting more residents and tourists alike with great new attractions like the Lyman Allyn Park, adding funds for projects under development, and so much more.

I had the great opportunity to attend the Pre - Memorial Day Candlelight Vigil. This was such a memorable event in which they honored men and women who lost their lives fighting for our country and to support our veterans and those currently on active & reserve duty. What a great honor to be present and hear from many individuals about loved ones that made and make a huge impact in our community.

Monday is Memorial Day, a day to remember and honor all whose bravery and service cost them the ultimate sacrifice. While this long weekend presents the opportunity to spend time with our loved ones, it is also a time to pause and reflect on those who gave their lives to protect and preserve our great nation and democracy. I also make sure to take the time to remind myself to live a life that is meaningful and worthy of the sacrifices so many have made. I hope you all have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.
