Dear Neighbor,
Memorial Day Candlelight Vigil
Downtown City of New London, Connecticut I had the great opportunity to attend the Pre - Memorial Day Candlelight Vigil. This was such a memorable event in which they honored men and women who lost their lives fighting for our country and to support our veterans and those currently on active & reserve duty. What a great honor to be present and hear from many individuals about loved ones that made and make a huge impact in our community.

The threshold for coverage will be lowered in three phases, beginning with employers that have at least 25 employees on January 1, 2025; those with at least 11 employees beginning January 1, 2026; and those with at least one employee beginning January 1, 2027.

Join the Conversation: Black Homeownership Matters
You’re invited: Join the Conversation: Black Homeownership Matters. July 11, 2024 Garde Arts Center City of New London, Connecticut 5:00 pm-6:30 pm Cocktail Hour & Exhibit Viewing - 7:00 pm-8:00 pm Fighting for Home, presented by Connecticut Public - 8:15 pm-9:00 pm Panel Discussion
Exhibits:
- Resilience, presented by Andre Rochester & Pamela Pike Gordinier
- Black Homeownership Matters, presented by Habitat for Humanity International
- Catering provided by Rustic Boutique, a minority-owned business
Join us for an evening of engaged conversation, exploration and discovery. The cocktail hour will feature delightfully delicious catering from the local minority-owned Rustic Boutique.
During the cocktail hour, there will be two exhibits to immerse yourself in:
Resilience is an art exhibit featuring the works of Andre Rochester and Pamela Pike Gordinier that explore social justice in America through their eyes.
Black Homeownership Matters is an immersive exhibit created by Habitat for Humanity International as a demonstration of a comprehensive strategy for advancing black homeownership and closing the gaps of inequity.
The presentation of CT Public's Fighting for Home will be shown at 7:00 pm. This eye-opening one-hour documentary delves deep
into the history of housing discrimination in the state. By tracing prejudice back before the nation was a country, and highlighting the period of the 1920s when state law was enacted to empower local governments to create exclusionary zoning laws, we see how Black and Brown residents have effectively been excluded from certain neighborhoods, towns and cities.
Following the screening, we will engage a dynamic panel in a discussion about the night's events, the topics presented, and how it all refelcts and effects our local communities. Panelists will be announced soon.
Tickets for this screening are FREE.
