February 17, 2016Presiding over the 2016 Mayor for a Day event at City Hall. This year's Mayor is Jahana Hayes who teaches at John F. Kennedy High. Ms. Hayes is also a finalist for National Teacher of the Year.
Honored by the NAACP
November 10, 2015I was recently among those honored by the NAACP as the 100 most influential black leaders in the state. The ceremony was part of the state chapter of the NAACP's 50th annual State Convention at the Hilton Hotel in Stamford.
Warner Gardens Groundbreaking
October 15, 2015I recently participated in the official ground breaking for the new Warner Gardens modern affordable housing complex. After years of neglect, Omni Development Corporation obtained state and private financing for the first $14.3 million phase, which includes the reconstruction of 58 one-, two- and three-bedroom flats in 17 buildings.
State Grants for Waterbury
July 31, 2015I am pleased that the State Bond Commission approved nearly $8 million in grants for Waterbury. The grants will benefit Waterbury’s school system, Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) and I-84 highway reconstruction.
