State Grants for Waterbury

July 31, 2015

I thank Governor Malloy for his continued commitment to education in Waterbury. The health and safety upgrades at both Walsh and Crosby Schools, along with Naugatuck Valley Community College create an atmosphere of learning for students that will encourage their success.

The Commission approved $6,563,444 for campus site improvements at Naugatuck Valley Community College. The improvements include realignment of the east campus entrance, renovation of the Founders Hall parking lot, repaving of the perimeter road, new site lighting, sidewalks and ADA improvements, and will create or retain 199 construction jobs.

The Commission also approved $3.4 million for improvements to eighteen Commissioner’s Network Schools across the state, including $160,000 for Waterbury’s Walsh Middle School and $200,000 for Crosby High School. The money will be used for alterations, repairs, improvements, technology and equipment to help address building and site deficiencies, and to promote the health, safety and learning.
