Opioid Legislation Will Save Lives

After hours of spirited debate, the House of Representatives passes landmark legislation designed to combat opioid overdoses. HB 5053 will give emergency responders the tools they need to save someone who's suffering from an overdose of opioid medication. The legislation improves access to Narcan, which has proven to be successful in treating opioid overdose.

Legislature OKs Bill Helping Firefighters

For Representative Henry Genga, protecting firefighters and making sure they're treated fairly is important. That is why he co-sponsored a bill that establishes a relief fund for wage replacements. The fund will be used for firefighters who are battling work-related cancer. House Bill 5262 provides compensation for current and former uniformed members of a paid or volunteer fire department who suffer from certain diseases as a result of performing their jobs.

Firefighter's Cancer Coverage Bill Passes Senate

I’m happy to announce that the Senate passed the firefighters cancer coverage bill! Here I stand with firefighters from Torrington who came all the way to the Capitol to support the bill’s passage. I am proud to stand by them. This bill will establish a relief fund used for wage replacement of those who are diagnosed with certain conditions of cancer as a result of their service as paid municipal or volunteer firefighters.
