January 24, 2025Thursday was National Maternal Health Awareness Day in Connecticut. The maternal mortality rate in this country is high, especially for women of color, and it must be addressed. This is an issue close to my heart. I hosted a press conference to discuss it, and to introduce the Black Maternal and Infant Health Caucus, of which I am Chair.

I have been appointed Vice Chair of the Public Health Committee for the 2025 legislative session, which begins on January 8th. I am humbled and honored. I want to thank the CT House Democrat leadership for its commitment and faith in me. I do not take this appointment lightly. I am committed to serving the people of Connecticut in this role to the best of my ability.
Student Loan Reimbursement Program Rolls Out in January
December 11, 2024Starting January 1, Connecticut college students will be able to benefit from a bill we passed to alleviate student loan debt. The reimbursement program, led by House Democrats and the first of its kind in the nation, provides up to $5,000/year for up to four years (up to $20,000) in loan forgiveness. Six million dollars has been allocated in the current budget cycle and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
