On Tuesday, Rep. Kate Farrar and Sen. Matthew Lesser and I were joined by Newington High School students for Future Business Leaders of America for CT FBLA Day!

Unfortunately, like a lot of residents, I've been battling a cold for the past few weeks. The good news is I haven't missed any votes and I've been able to continue my work as your tireless advocate at the State Capitol.

I understand there is a lot of uncertainty, anxiety and concern over the recent attempt by the federal government to pause federal grants and loans programs. What I can say for sure is my colleagues and I will continue to fight to improve the lives of the residents of Newington, New Britain and the state.

Work has started in the three committees to which I've been assigned, Housing, Transportation and General Law, of which I am vice chair. 

The legislative session is off to a very busy start, with issues like housing, how we fund education -- special education in particular -- and consumer energy prices at the top of the list.

Today, with my wife Heather in attendance, I was sworn in at the state Capitol to serve my fourth term representing the 27th District. While it was my fourth time, it never gets old.

As we gear up for the new legislative session set to begin Jan. 8, I want to wish everyone a safe, healthy and happy new year.

I was recently reappointed Deputy Majority Leader by House Majority Leader Jason Rojas. I was also appointed Vice-Chair of the General Law Committee, which has added responsibilities including oversight over consumer protection, gambling, cannabis, and alcohol.
