As Co-Chair of the Judiciary Committee, I’ve had the privilege of reviewing, debating, and shaping legislation on some of the most pressing legal and social issues facing our state — from criminal justice reform and gun safety laws to civil rights protections and updates to our legal procedures.

I was pleased to join fellow lawmakers and advocates this week, including representatives from the Connecticut Bar Association and the ACLU of Connecticut, for a news conference where we reaffirmed our commitment to safeguarding Connecticut's immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities. We also pledged to protect our judicial branch from the harmful onslaught of illegal executive orders from the White House that undermine the Constitution and the rule of law.

Affordable and accessible childcare is essential for Connecticut families and businesses to thrive. H.B. 5003, a top legislative priority for House Democrats this session, will expedite funding for families, attract and retain childcare educators, and enhance both new and existing childcare facilities.

I was proud to cast my vote in support of a bill that allocates $40 million in funding to special education. This legislation provides immediate support to over 140 school districts across our state, including historically underfunded districts like Bridgeport. This investment is crucial in ensuring that all students have access to the highest quality education they deserve.

This legislation was inspired by the tragic line-of-duty deaths last year of two Connecticut state employees, including a trooper from the Connecticut State Police and an employee from the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
