Meriden area lawmakers are pleased the General Assembly has approved a deal that Sikorsky Aircraft, which has made its home in Stratford since 1929, will remain here until at least 2032. “This mutually beneficial agreement between the state and a major company like Sikorsky will have a positive economic impact across the state, including Meriden’s suppliers,” Rep. Hilda Santiago (D-Meriden) said. “It is encouraging to see the state working together and finding solutions to create and keep jobs in Connecticut.”

Happy to participate with the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, the nation’s preeminent Latino leadership organization, colleagues and more than 50 other policymakers from across the country for a two-day institute in Boston, Massachusetts.

I am happy I joined my colleague, Rep. Cathy Abercrombie at the 11th Annual Autism Day at the State Capitol.

Today, I joined my colleagues for a press conference at MidState Medical Center to help raise awareness of Connecticut's Safe Haven law.

I was honored to share an unforgettable moment with longtime Meriden public servant, Mr. Matthew C. Dominello, his family, colleagues and friends during the dedication of the Meriden Senior Center’s 3^rd floor that what will be known as the Matthew C. Dominello Sr. Community Center.

Governor Malloy just announced that Meriden will be awarded a $100,000 grant to develop plans for remediating and developing clusters of brownfield sites. This effort will not only enhance our community, but will help generate revenue. Meriden is one of six communities receiving brownfield remediation in this round of grants.

In the Record Journal story below, my colleagues and I, weigh in on Governor Malloy’s recent announcement ordering $103 million in emergency cuts. This session we fought very hard to maintain critical funding for our most vulnerable citizens during one of the toughest budget negotiations I can remember. While we realize the governor needs to make adjustments amid bad news in the financial markets, it is extremely upsetting to see that we are back where we started. We will continue to defend our programs and will do everything we can to try to find alternatives to help minimize the impact of any cuts.
