It has been a productive few weeks at the Capitol as we head into the final 3 weeks of the 2026 Legislative Session. Next week the House will be in Session on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. My colleagues and I are working tirelessly to pass good legislation that will make a meaningful difference for residents in our districts and communities. Over the remaining weeks, I will keep you updated on the work we are doing at the Capitol and what it means for you. Please reach out to my office at any time with questions, comments, or concerns.

It’s been a fast-paced week at the Capitol as we tackle the core issues facing Northeastern Connecticut. I recently sat down with local education leaders to discuss critical state budget adjustments, specifically focusing on how we can better manage the rising costs of special education. On the healthcare front, the affiliation between Day Kimball Hospital and UConn Health is moving forward, with the DKH Board now reviewing the Letter of Intent.

Between attending municipal meetings and listening to testimony in committee public hearings, I’ve been energized by your engagement. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to share their stance on pending bills, and a special thanks to the "full house" in Hampton last week—the conversation was invaluable. I can't do my job effectively without your feedback.

On Wednesday, we officially gaveled in the opening day of the 2026 Legislative Session. It is a privilege to return to Hartford to represent our corner of the state. Following the opening ceremonies, we heard the Governor’s State of the State Address. Several local leaders from Northeastern Connecticut joined us in Hartford for opening day.

The Connecticut General Assembly is set to start the 2026 Legislative Session next Wednesday, February 4th. As we prepare for another session, I want to hear directly from you about the issues and priorities that matter most in our community and ensure you are aware of what is going on in the legislature and how you can get involved. Your input is essential in helping guide our work at the Capitol, and I value community discussions as an important part of my work. In February, I will be holding two events in the Quiet Corner to connect with residents about their concerns and questions, and connect residents with the resources to stay updated.

As we welcome a new year, several laws passed in the 2025 legislative session will take effect on January 1, 2026.

Last night, the State House of Representatives passed HB 8001, beginning the process for Day Kimball Health to join the UConn Health System, along with Waterbury Hospital and Bristol Hospital. This important legislation also authorizes state bonding funds to support much-needed capital improvements across these facilities.

During the fifth annual Heating Assistance Awareness Month this November, Eversource is raising awareness about the programs available to help pay or lower heating bills, and keep homes warm this winter.
