As we welcome a new year, several laws passed in the 2025 legislative session will take effect on January 1, 2026.

From my family to yours, I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones Happy Holidays. I hope you all have a season filled with peace, joy, and meaningful time spent with loved ones. 

Last night, the State House of Representatives passed HB 8001, beginning the process for Day Kimball Health to join the UConn Health System, along with Waterbury Hospital and Bristol Hospital. This important legislation also authorizes state bonding funds to support much-needed capital improvements across these facilities.

During the fifth annual Heating Assistance Awareness Month this November, Eversource is raising awareness about the programs available to help pay or lower heating bills, and keep homes warm this winter.

I would like to invite you all to join me, State Senator Mae Flexer, State Comptroller Sean Scanlon, Town of Pomfret officials, and the Connecticut State Police for a Highway Dedication Ceremony in honor of State Trooper Irving H. Nelson. The Highway Dedication Ceremony will take place on Monday, October 27th, at 4:30 p.m. at the Pomfret Volunteer Fire Department. A section along Route 97 in Pomfret will be dedicated to Trooper Nelson of New Haven, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in Pomfret on April 6th, 1928.

There is some exciting news for the Quiet Corner, including state funding for Eastford Independent Fire Company and the potential purchase of Day Kimball Hospital by UConn Health. The Public Safety and Security Committee recently held a hearing about long-term planning for Connecticut's fire services. On October 1st, new state laws will take effect across the state. State Representative Pat Boyd (D-Pomfret) secured $75,000 in state funding allocated for the Eastford Independent Fire Department during the 2025 Legislative Session. The Connecticut General Assembly approved this funding as part of the 2026-2027 State Budget.
