Balancing education and the effects of in-person learning on public health has been a daunting and ongoing task during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as cases are on the rise as students and faculty return from their holiday break.
 

I wanted to make you aware of a few new laws that will take effect in Connecticut at the start of the new year. My colleagues and I worked hard during the 2021 legislative session to listen to your concerns and advocate for meaningful change in our state.

You may have heard last week that my bonding request for the Veterans Memorial Clubhouse and the Silver Lane corridor was added to the State Bond Commission's meeting agenda. Today at 2PM, the Commission will hold its meeting to vote on the allocation of the requested funds for our community.

The urgency of doing everything we can to protect our fragile environment is profound. We are seeing climate change's devastating effects all across our state, nation, and world, so we owe it to ourselves and future generations to take meaningful action now.

The East Hartford Health Department has partnered with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health to offer a limited supply of free radon test kits to East Hartford residents. Radon is a colorless, tasteless, odorless gas, which may be found in soil and water. It can leak into homes from the soil, usually through cracks or other openings in the foundation.

Effective Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the Town of East Hartford is reinstituting face mask requirements for all employees and visitors in all town facilities regardless of their vaccination status.

Increasing fuel prices will present additional challenges for Connecticut residents to keep warm this winter season.

I am pleased to announce that Connecticut's landmark Paid Family and Medical Leave Program applications are now being accepted for Connecticut residents who want to participate in the state’s program. Claims are being accepted for qualifying events that are happening on or after January 1, 2022.
