Juneteenth Celebrations in Norwalk
June 13, 2025Next Thursday, June 19 is Juneteenth. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in our country. For many years, this important holiday was primarily celebrated in the South, but was unknown to others from the rest of the country. However, thanks to great advocacy work, it is now rightfully observed throughout the country, including Connecticut. In 2022, the Connecticut General Assembly voted to make Juneteenth a state holiday.

June 5, 2025The 2025 legislative session concluded on Wednesday. My colleagues and I crafted and passed several great pieces of legislation, but I am most proud of Senate Bill 1542, AN ACT CONCERNING THE USE OF HANDCUFFS ON YOUNG CHILDREN.

Monday is Memorial Day
May 23, 2025I am proud to share that one of my bills, SB 1542 - AN ACT CONCERNING THE USE OF HANDCUFFS ON YOUNG CHILDREN, has unanimously passed in the Senate. This bill will raise the age for arrest of a child under certain circumstances, from ten to twelve years in 2026, and from twelve to fourteen years in 2028, and restrict the use of handcuffs on children under fourteen years of age.

Housing Bill Affecting Children Moves Out of Committee
April 25, 2025I am proud to announce that one of my housing bills, HB 6941, is moving closer to the House and Senate floor! This bill, which will affect children and families, originated in the Housing Committee - after passing there, it moved to the Appropriations committee, where it passed with bipartisan support.
