Grasso Center Closing Worries Parents

March 27, 2016

Officials said that there are 30 individuals at the Ella Grasso Center and 10 at the Meriden Regional Center who will be moved to another center in Norwalk.

The Grasso center serves Bridgeport, Stratford, Fairfield, Trumbull, Milford, Easton and Monroe. The move left the parents and guardians in the lurch, and they say they were kept in the dark.

“They told us right before Christmas — ‘The home is closing and we’re moving everybody out,’ ” said Laura Gibson of Simsbury who is a guardian of a client. “The communication has been very poor — they’re not returning our phone calls.”

Joanne Campos, another Grasso parent, said she wasn’t sure what to do next. “We haven’t been told anything,” she said.
