Rep. Joe Gresko, his legislative colleagues, hospital administrators, employees and patients are calling for passage of legislation, (HB 5588), An Act Concerning The Timing Of Payments From Supplemental Inpatient Payment Pools For Short-Term General Hospitals. The bill would make hospitals exempt from paying taxes in the case that the state withholds Medicaid funds.

A report filed with the Office of Health Care Access by at least 25 hospitals showed at least eight lost money in 2015. St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport and Milford Hospital were among hospitals that lost money.
