Home Heating Assistance Available to Stratford Families

August 28, 2019

Residents in need of home heating assistance can submit an application for the state’s home heating assistance program. In Stratford, the program is administered through the local Community Action Agency, ABCD.

Now is the time to start thinking about applying for heating assistance. We are only a month or so away from cold weather. If you are eligible for home heating assistance, this program is here to help you and your family stay warm.

The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) is designed to help offset the winter heating costs of Connecticut's lower income households, specifically those households whose income falls at or below 60 percent of the state median income. CEAP is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Block Grant.

Benefit awards are determined based on income, household size, vulnerability (eg. families with children or seniors) and liquid assets. Vulnerable households and households with the lowest incomes receive the highest awards.

Those seeking heating assistance should call 2-1-1 or visit www.ct.gov/staywarm.
