Dear Neighbor,

I hope this message finds you and your family well! As we wrap up the legislative session, the House has been debating and voting on crucial bills late into the night. During our last few days, I have continued to stay dedicated to passing legislation that will benefit our residents. It is an honor to serve as your state representative and be the voice for residents of the 50th District at the Capitol.

Memorial Day Celebrations

This Memorial Day also marked the 97th birthday of Pomfret resident James Platt, who delivered remarks during the town's observance on Monday. Mr. Platt reflected on his time serving in Japan during World War II and shared the various ways that Pomfret has observed Memorial Day over the years.

He is a remarkable individual who has always actively been engaged in the community and a Life Member of the Pomfret Fire Department. His words were fitting as we honored those who sacrificed everything in service to the United States on this and every Memorial Day.

STEAP Funding for Ashford and Hampton

I am excited to share that Ashford and Hampton received state funding this week through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). This is a state program that delivers grants to small towns for economic development, community conservation, and quality-of-life capital projects. On Wednesday, Governor Lamont announced that he is releasing $30 million in grants to 46 small towns across Connecticut, including Ashford and Hampton.

Ashford is receiving $400,000 for the Ashford Public Works Facility, which will be matched by $104,701 from the town. This funding will be used for the repaving project.

Hampton is receiving $500,000 for Windham Road, which will be matched by $220,000 from the town. This funding will be used for the road reconstruction project.

Experience Eastford Day

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to catch up with friends from The Last Green Valley and ECFLA/ Wolf Den Land Trust at Experience Eastford Day, held at the Eastford Elementary School. I managed to sneak away just in time, right before I was goaded into participating in the Pie-Eating Contest.

A big thanks to the Town of Eastford and the Eastford Recreation Commission for all their hard work in making this annual event such a huge success!

International Firefighters Day

Earlier this month, I was honored to join Comptroller Sean Scanlon, the Joint Council of Fire Service Organizations, the CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and many of my colleagues to observe International Firefighters Day. We used this opportunity to release the Special Examination on Firefighters in Connecticut. This, along with the strategic plan, will guide the Legislature and the new Commission on Fire Prevention and Control as we rebuild the ranks of Fire Service in Connecticut, both Volunteer and Career.

The Special Examination can be found here
