As we wrapped up the last six months of work, one of the most talked about issues was the state budget, but equally important are many measures we passed that may be of interest to you, some of which have already been signed by Governor Lamont.

I am pleased to report the House passed legislation that will facilitate minority teacher recruitment and retention across the state.

The House passed a budget which is responsible, stable, and funds the Rainy Day Fund at historic levels. With significant investments in education, job growth, and economic development throughout the state, the budget holds the line on spending.

After many hours of debate over the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) legislation, the House of Representatives passes the bill, which has already been approved by the Senate.

In 2013 both the House and Senate unanimously passed the Trust Act, setting conditions for state and local law enforcement authorities for voluntarily cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials seeking to detain and deport undocumented immigrants.

I am thrilled to share with you that last night, the House passed HB 7160, An Act Increasing Voter Access. Besides automatic voter registration through the Department of Motor Vehicles, the bill restores fairness to our democratic system and gives people who have been incarcerated the right to vote after serving their time, as many other states allow.

The House prioritized to author sensible, gun-safety legislation to help Connecticut residents feel safer when they step outside of their homes. The House and Senate have passed all three gun safety bills by strong, bipartisan votes.
