Great news! The Aging Committee approved HB5001, an omnibus bill that will provide further support to our seniors. This bill will allow more seniors to age in place, increase protections in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and improve training for caregivers.

March is Women’s History Month, a time dedicated to honoring the vital role women have played in American history. It’s also a time to celebrate their achievements and learn more about their contributions. This year’s theme is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion,” which recognizes women throughout the country who believe a positive future can only be achieved by eliminating bias and discrimination from our society.

February is Black History Month, a time when we celebrate the many achievements and contributions of individuals from the Black diaspora, as well as reckon with the systemic racism from our past that is still prevalent today. The theme for this year's month-long celebration is “African Americans and the Arts,” which spotlights Black Americans who excelled in various fields of creative expression, and the influence they have on our country's culture.

Connecticut has launched a new online jobs portal aimed at assisting state residents — and those seeking to move here — in the process of finding a job.

The new portal - jobs.ct.gov - joins health.ct.gov and business.ct.gov as the next service category in Connecticut's ongoing evolution toward a more digital state government that streamlines and improves access to state services and resources.

As we ring in the new year, there are some laws that become effective on January 1 that were passed during the 2023 legislative session addressing key issue areas including early voting, health and mental health, and online privacy and data protection.
