Due to an anticipated stretch of high temperatures, the state is activating its Extreme Hot Weather Protocol, effective at noon on Sunday, June 22. The protocol will remain in effect through at least 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25.

The legislative session was highlighted not only with broad policy victories for Connecticut residents, but also robust local support in the form of funding coming back to Newington and New Britain.

The 2025 legislative session came to a close on June 4. We passed a lot of good legislation, and as often happens, some good legislation died in either the House or the Senate. Sometimes it takes a few sessions to pass legislation, and in the meantime, there's an opportunity to make it even better.

The week began with me and several of my colleagues calling out the Trump Administration for its horribly timed reversal of the pause on student loan repayments. To be clear: people want to, and should, repay what they owe for the loans they received, or have their payments reduced if they qualify for a relief of assistance program. However, they also should have the flexibility to pay those loans back at a schedule and at a rate that works for them to enable them to juggle other household bills.
