COVID-19 Scam Alert, More Updates
March 18, 2020Scammers are hoping that with tensions running high, your guard will be down. They will target you through unsolicited emails, texts or phone calls with misleading claims about fake miracle cures and treatments. They may also ask you to donate to victims through a fake charity.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), has put together some tools to help you detect scam emails, calls and texts and ensure charities are on the up-and-up.
If someone is claiming they have a cure or vaccine for COVID-19, they are lying to you. You should stick with the experts at the CT Department of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). AARP (www.aarp.org/coronavirus) and the Connecticut Attorney General's office are also great resources if you are worried about COVID-19 scams.
Effective Thursday, March 19, 2020, the Judicial Branch will implement the following changes:
- One building in each of the 13 Judicial Districts will be designated as the location at which only Priority 1 functions will be handled. Juvenile Matters will be heard in the Hartford and Bridgeport juvenile courthouses. We have attached the list of courthouses that will remain open.
- Some administrative offices will remain open with a reduced workforce.
- All other staff will be asked to work from home to the extent possible.
