Legislation Passed in SB 298 Related to Workers' Comp, Warehouse Workers

Dear Neighbor,

The Senate, followed by the House, passed an omnibus bill this week, comprised of legislation introduced last year. You can read more about it HERE.

As House chair of the Labor and Public Employees Committee, I am proud that two bills made it over the finish line that zeroed in on Municipal Pensions and Workers’ Comp, and Warehouse Workers, specifically sections 48 and 50-57, respectively, in SB298.

Municipal Pensions and Workers’ Comp 


Prohibits towns and cities from changing or reducing employees’ pension payouts because they received workers’ compensation benefits through the course of their employment, including police officers and firefighters, but technically covers all municipal employees with pensions.
 

Warehouse Workers


Provides greater protections for workers in warehouses and fulfillment centers. This bill ensures quotas do not interfere with employees’ legally mandated meal and bathroom breaks and ensures that workers are presently aware of what quotas they may be subjected to while on the job.  Employees experiencing violations of such rights can now recover any costs that may have incurred.

A win for workers with the passage of these two bills. To the governor's desk next.
