Dreamers Bill Gets Final Legislative Approval in the House

April 26, 2018

As leaders of the state legislature’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC), my colleague and vice chair, State Rep. Brandon McGee and I, are extremely thrilled to see our CT Dreamers' dream closer to reality after House passage of Senate Bill No. 4, An Act Assisting Students without Legal Immigration Status with the Cost of College, giving students access to a pool of money that they have already paid into. Following is our statement.

“We are extremely thrilled to see the CT General Assembly finally come together in support of our Dreamers with this fair-minded measure. As one of the top priorities for members in our BPRC, we have been advocating on behalf of these great students for quite some time, and supporting their strong advocacy for this dream to become a reality. We commend the students’ work, persistence and commitment to not giving up, and today we stand proud with them celebrating this victory. We also want to thank members on the other side of the aisle for joining us in this effort and making it an issue with bipartisan support.”

The bill, already passed by the Senate in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote, now goes to the governor for final approval.
