🏀 Basketball signs on I-91, I-84, and I-395 from Massachusetts
Following back-to-back national titles won by the UConn men’s basketball team in 2023 and 2024, the total of combined national championships won by the men’s and women’s basketball programs grew to 17, six more than any other university in the nation.
🍕 Pizza signs on I-95 and I-84 from New York
Governor Lamont declared Connecticut the Pizza Capital of the U.S. in February with a gubernatorial proclamation and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro read it into the Congressional Record in May.
👩🍳 Foodie sign on U.S. Route 6 from Rhode Island
Connecticut chef’s and restaurants have gained increased national recognition, capped by Chef David Standridge capturing the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northeast in 2024. Governor Lamont proclaimed Connecticut the “Foodie Capital of New England” in February.
🌊 Submarine sign on I-95 from Rhode Island
The submarine was invented in Connecticut by David Bushnell in 1775, laying the groundwork for modern day submarines. General Dynamics Electric Boat of Groton has been the primary submarine maker for the U.S. Navy since the early 20th Century. The U.S. Navy’s primary submarine base is in New London.
These new signs are more than just highway markers, they symbolize the unique qualities of Connecticut.
Last month, several communities in Connecticut were impacted by historic flooding. To help provide assistance to those impacted, the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) has launched CTDOL Assistance for Flood Victims, which can be accessed from the CTDOL homepage.
If the flooding has impacted your employment in any way, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. Additionally, employers can find assistance through the CTDOL Rapid Response team. Please check out the Department of Labor Assistance for Flood Victims webpage for more resources and links.
Reminder - CTDOT is holding in-person meeting on Tuesday, September 10, at 6:00 p.m.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a public information meeting concerning the conceptual improvements proposed for Route 7 from Grist Mill Road to Kent Road in Norwalk and Wilton on Tuesday, September 10, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cranbury Elementary School at 10 Knowalot Lane in Norwalk.
The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation. There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements. Two total acquisitions may be needed on the northwest corner of the intersection of Grist Mill Road and Main Avenue. Partial minor acquisitions may be needed in other project areas to construct turn lanes and to provide a continuous sidewalk network throughout the project limits.
The proposed project is in the early stages of development. No funding has been identified and no schedule has been determined.

Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.

The city of Norwalk will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 9:00 AM on the Eric Malmquist Track Field next to Norwalk City Hallin front of the 9/11 Norwalk Memorial, located by the flagpole.
As the 23rd anniversary of this great tragedy approaches, please take a moment to pause and reflect on this tragic event, and remember the victims and the many first responders who bravely set aside their personal safety to save lives.
