We're celebrating culture this Hispanic Heritage Month in addition to honoring generations of resilience, creativity, and impact. From art to innovation, the Hispanic community continues to shape our world in powerful ways. Let’s uplift, honor, and keep making history together as our Hispanic and Latino American populations continue to grow in Waterbury and the rest of the state.
Hispanic Heritage Month provides an additional opportunity to explore the incredible impact Latinos continue to have on the United States. We help fuel our economy and enrich our nation as entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, entertainers, scientists, public servants, and much more.
Next week, Waterbury will make history by renaming one of our schools to the Roberto Clemente International Dual Language School. Clemente is a symbol of pride, heroism, and brilliance to the Puerto Rican and Latino communities. Naming a school in his honor serves as an inspiration to students, emphasizing values like perseverance, generosity, and the importance of community service in a district where more than 60% of the student population is of Hispanic descent.
This weekend, you will see more Hispanic and international creativity on display at The Gathering. You can expect an amazing parade, dances, cultural tents, and food from around the world in downtown Waterbury. Come and join me at the most culturally diverse festival in New England on Saturday, September 28th, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Library Park in Downtown Waterbury. I hope to see you there!
