Direct Flights from Bradley to Jamaica & Mexico

July 26, 2024

I applaud Avelo Airlines for its planned expansion to Bradley International Airport with seven, new direct flights including a pair of international destinations. Beginning in November, Avelo will offer nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico. Avelo is the only airline offering nonstop service from Bradley International Airport to these tropical locations.

While this announcement is a win for all Connecticut travelers, it’s especially important for Waterbury’s West Indian population. These direct flights will provide many of our residents an essential link to their families while strengthening the cultural ties that make our city and state so vibrant. Travelers will also be able to connect from Jamaica to other island nations such as Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad Tobago.
I’m grateful to my colleague Rep. Bobby Gibson, Caribbean Trade Council President Andrew Lawrence, Governor Ned Lamont, House Speaker Matt Ritter, and the Connecticut Airport Authority who all played tremendous roles in this process and never wavered over many years to help see this goal come to fruition.
Avelo also offers affordable direct flights from Tweed-New Haven Airport to San Juan, Puerto Rico. That service in Southern Connecticut began in November 2023 and has allowed Connecticut’s expanding Puerto Rican community to reunite with family and friends in the Caribbean.
