According to CTDOT, summer is historically the deadliest time of year on Connecticut roadways. Between June and September 2024, Connecticut recorded 116 traffic fatalities and 587 serious injuries. More than one-third of those fatalities involved motorcyclists.
CTDOT encourages drivers to take a moment before every trip to ensure they are ready to travel safely by:
- Giving their full attention to driving
- Checking for road conditions, delays, and construction activity
- Making sure everyone is wearing a seat belt
- Being prepared to share the road with pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists
- Avoiding impaired or fatigued driving
A few simple precautions can help prevent crashes and save lives. As you enjoy all that summer has to offer, please remember that the most important destination is arriving home safely.
