AFSCME Council 4 Visit to the Capitol
It was a great day seeing council 4 members rocking the green throughout the State Capitol this week. Great to have discussions about supporting public service workers priorities that include: FMLA for non-certified school staff - Living wages for paraeducators - More wage and hour inspectors - Portal to portal coverage for DPW workers - and Passing the SEBAC contracts. Thank you for your advocacy for justice, dignity, and respect you deserve.
 
4-H Citizenship Day
Big "Shout IT Out" to UConn 4-H youth visiting us at the LOB & Capitol in Hartford for 4-H Citizenship Day. They toured the capitol and participated in workshops then hosted a ice cream social for the legislators. Definitely displayed great leadership abilities & skill through conversation I had with many. Wishing you all good luck and success.
 
Husky Day at the Capitol
This week we had Husky Day at the State Capitol. UCONN Back-to-Back National Champions. Big congrats to the UConn Men's Basketball
 
Puppy Day at the Capitol!
Today during our day we had some friends come visit for the annual Puppy Day! Thank you to the Connecticut Humane Society for helping us raise awareness about pets in the state.
(Taking a moment to hold one of these cute pups eased the busy session day helping bring many smiles)
 
Silence on the Streets Documentary Showing
Big thanks to Sharece - Sellem-Hanna, Mike Lowler, Community Speaks Out, the Garde Arts Center and many others that came out put together and supported the Silence On The Streets Documentary. It was great to see so many people come out.
 
HOPE, Inc. Ribbon Cutting
Congratulations to the New tenants and big thank you to HOPE, Inc. For continuing to meet the needs of the City of New London, Connecticut when it comes to housing. Unfortunately I was unable to attend this great ribbon cutting but I wanted to recognize the amazing work and congratulate those getting great new homes.
 
Lovelans Beauty Supply Opening
Surprise.... and welcome to "Lovelans Beauty Supply"- City of New London, Connecticut newest beauty salon store on Connecticut/Broad Street. Congratulations to Ni-Tasia Sutton on her #2 business in New London called "Lovelans Beauty Supply". The store provides numerous hair and beauty projects right next door to The Braid Hive hair salon. Making these great hair and beauty products accessible to our community is such a great asset for our diverse culture.
 
Legislator Forum on Educator Diversity
Coming Tuesday, April 23 at 12:30 P.M. for a free forum on diversifying CT’s educator workforce!

 
The forum will discuss minority teacher recruitment efforts and how a proposed bill (H.B. 5436) on teacher certification could diversify the teaching profession.
 
State Police Dispatcher Job Opening

Connecticut Mentoring Fund Proposals
The Connecticut Mentoring Fund calling for proposals from youth mentoring programs and organizations across Connecticut. Our goal is to support 10 mentoring programs through this funding opportunity.

 
We're committed to evidence-based approaches that positively influence young lives, particularly in underserved communities. By expanding mentoring programs and targeting interventions, we envision a future where every young person has a caring adult mentor in our state.
 
Submit your proposal today to strengthen mentor recruitment in urban areas! This competitive grant process prioritizes initiatives aligned with the guidelines outlined in the request for proposals (RFP). The deadline to submit is Monday, April 22, 2024 – 3:00 pm. Cracking Down on Street Takeovers
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, street takeovers have become a national issue. This cannot become the new normal. Yesterday, I voted to crack down on the issue here in Connecticut.
