Passed Reasonable and Responsible Gun Laws

May 7, 2019

The House of Representatives is in session today and we passed two important pieces of legislation.

HB 7218, An Act Concerning the Safe Storage of Firearms (Ethan’s Law)

The bill will require the safe storage of all firearms, whether loaded or unloaded, in a home with a minor under eighteen years of age.

Smart gun laws save lives and I am proud that our legislature took the necessary steps to ensure Connecticut remains committed to reasonable and responsible gun laws. With the passage of this bill, I would like to take a moment to remember Ethan Song and all victims of gun accidents and violence.

HB 7219, An Act Concerning Ghost Guns

The legislation would ban guns without serial numbers and regulate those which are sold in a form requiring the purchaser to finish assembly or that are homemade or 3-D printed.

I am grateful that the House passed the bill, showing our state's strong commitment to common sense gun laws that are responsive to the changing time.

Both these bills will now be considered by the Senate.
