Statement on Eliminating DACA

September 5, 2017

Chair of the Black & Puerto Rican Caucus, State Representative Christopher Rosario (D-Bridgeport) and co-chair, State Representative Brandon McGee (D-Windsor/Hartford) issued the following joint statement regarding the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):

“Today’s official announcement from the White House to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is a reminder to all American lawmakers that our work towards a viable path for immigration reform is more critical than ever.  The termination of a program that has proven effective to not only businesses, but in areas of our day to day lives within our communities such as hospitals, libraries, government services and many others is beyond extreme. Announcing the end of this program without offering a solution is not leadership. These undocumented students have offered their skills and talents to the country, did nothing wrong and have proven to be successful young men and women who call America their home. Sending them back to countries they do not know and places that are foreign to them is the height of anti-American sentiment. We urge our Connecticut Congressional delegation to continue their push for a swift resolution to this critical issue and to work with members on both sides of the aisle to find common ground. We stand with all the Dreamers and will continue to support them and their families through this difficult time.”
