I’m excited to share that New Britain will receive $2.67 million in state funding through Connecticut’s Brownfield Remediation and Development Program to support the transformation of the former Mount Pleasant public housing site at 100 Richard St.
This investment will allow the Housing Authority of New Britain to abate, remediate, and demolish the aging facility, paving the way for a new mixed-income housing community on nearly 20 acres.
Phase 1 of the redevelopment will create 72 new housing units, with 70% of the apartments deed-restricted for 30 years and affordable to households earning at or below 60% of the Area Median Income.
This funding is a major step toward revitalizing a long-underutilized property, expanding affordable housing opportunities, and strengthening the community.
I’m grateful to Governor Lamont and DECD for partnering with New Britain to invest in the city’s future.
