Updates from State Rep. Larry Butler for June 5, 2026

June 5, 2026

I applaud the State Bond Commission for approving $9.55 million in state funding to help transform Waterbury and drive economic growth. This investment will support critical development projects, strengthen infrastructure, and create new opportunities for residents, businesses, and the community’s future.
This critical investment includes:

  • $4 million to support environmental cleanup at the former Anamet brass manufacturing property
  • $5 million to provide support for the Waterbury Land Bank
  • $550,000 to remediate the Scovill Industrial Landfill

This funding in environmental cleanup and remediation across Waterbury is a significant step toward transforming the city’s neighborhoods, strengthening economic development, and creating new opportunities for residents and businesses alike.

Providing additional funding to the Waterbury Land Bank is vital to turning neglected properties into productive community assets, helping stabilize neighborhoods and encouraging redevelopment.

Revitalizing underused or contaminated properties helps breathe new life into areas that have sat vacant for far too long. These investments can attract new housing, support local businesses, improve public safety, and create spaces the community can take pride in. These efforts represent a long-term investment in Waterbury’s future growth and moving our city forward with renewed opportunity. Thank you to Governor Ned Lamont, House Speaker Matt Ritter, and House Minority Leader Jason Rojas for supporting Waterbury.

Anaconda Site Revitalization

Additionally I was proud to work with the Waterbury state delegation and both Mayor Paul Pernerewski and former Mayor Neil O’Leary to help secure $10 million in state funding to support the remediation and redevelopment of the former Anaconda-American Brass Company site.

For too long, these abandoned industrial properties have been symbols of economic decline. This meaningful investment helps turn that around by preparing the site for future development, job creation, housing, retail opportunities and long-term economic growth while honoring Waterbury’s manufacturing legacy.

Support Our Dairy Farmers

The state is committing $22.5 million from our Federal Cuts Response Fund to support Connecticut’s dairy farmers. Many small, family-owned businesses, including those in the Naugatuck Valley, are working hard to stay afloat amid federally set milk prices that often favor large corporate operations over our local farms.

This investment will help protect jobs and ensure our communities continue to have access to fresh, nutritious, and locally produced food. When we support our farmers, we strengthen our food supply chain and our economy at the same time.

I was proud to support the creation of the Federal Cuts Response Fund during a special session last year to help stabilize Connecticut’s economy and businesses in the face of federal uncertainty and rising costs. Meeting these unexpected needs is exactly why we established the fund.

Celebrating 100 Years
at Bucks Hill Community Club

A century of bringing people together — what an incredible achievement for the Bucks Hill Community Club. The start of this centennial celebration was truly special, and it was inspiring to see so many families and neighbors gathered to mark the occasion.

My thanks to the Club’s officers, whose hard work and commitment help make this such a warm and thriving place for local families and children. So much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but it makes all the difference. Cheers to the next hundred years!
