House Advances Tire Disposal Bill

April 17, 2026

I am proud that my colleagues and I advanced a measure addressing the disposal of old tires. I'll break down how this bill makes our streets cleaner.

I would like to thank everyone who made last week's Family Resource Fair such a success. Community organizers did an amazing job providing valuable resources to residents. Please scroll below to see pictures from the vibrant event.

House Advances Tire Disposal Bill

The House recently passed legislation to strengthen Connecticut’s tire stewardship program by requiring retail stores to fully participate by July 1, 2027. This step aims to reduce illegal dumping and prevent the buildup of old tires in our neighborhoods, a persistent source of blight and environmental harm.

By improving tire collection and ensuring responsible tire disposal, the measure will help keep our streets cleaner, reduce public health risks, and bring new life into our communities.

The Senate now has until May 6 to act on this measure.

Family Resource Fair

We had an incredible turnout for the Second Family Resource Fair, a free community event to connect residents with valuable programs, services, and support available in and around Hartford.

Thank you to all the community organizations, hospitals, and service providers who participated and shared valuable information on health care, education, housing, employment opportunities, and more. Their commitment to serving our community made a real difference for everyone who attended.

I am grateful to my Constituent Engagement Coordinator, Milagros Acosta, who arrived early and worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. And thank you to my Outreach Coordinator, Olivia Runte, whose dedication and hard work ensured that participating organizations were fully supported.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day

As you begin spring cleaning, clearing out old medications is an essential step toward a refreshed and safe home. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, administered by the DEA, will take place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. This event provides residents with a free, anonymous, and convenient way to safely dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications.

The West Hartford Police Department, in collaboration with the West Hartford Bloomfield Health District and the West Hartford Prevention Partnership, will host the event in the West Hartford Town Hall parking lot.

Celebrating Earth Day
The community will come together next week for Earth Day to promote environmental protection, raise awareness for climate action, fight pollution, and promote green energy.

Earth Day is also an opportunity to reflect on the small, everyday choices we can each make, from reducing waste and conserving energy to supporting local sustainability efforts that collectively create meaningful change.

You can get involved by joining fellow volunteers to help clean up Bushnell Park on Saturday, April 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., as well as the following Saturday. It’s a great opportunity to give back, enjoy the outdoors, and help keep one of our city’s most treasured spaces beautiful.

Then, on Saturday, April 25, On Earth will host an Earth Day Festival from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., featuring live music, interactive workshops, games, vintage vendors, and more. Come celebrate our planet, connect with neighbors, and learn new ways to live more sustainably.

I hope you attend one, or both, of these great community events as we work together toward a cleaner, greener future.
