Dear Neighbor,

The business and busy-ness of the General Assembly continues. All committee except Judiciary (on which I sit), Appropriations, and Finance have met their deadlines for this year.

We’re not in until April 8th and 9th for House sessions, at which time we'll be taking up many of the measures that have been reported by committees.

Monday was a meeting of the Judiciary Committee. We developed legislation that addressed several topics, including:

  • Addressing digital forgery
  • Establishing a private right of action for victims of unlawful dissemination of a synthetically created intimate image
  • Consolidated our various hate crime statutes in one place
  • Added protections against sexual assault
  • New protections for health care workers

Tuesday was the last meeting of the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee, of which I am Vice Chair. Among other items we voted favorably on the nomination of Susan Hamilton to be commissioner of Children and Families. I think this is the hardest job of any cabinet member.

On Wednesday, we were in session to deal with a long list of judicial and executive nominations and approving a contact with some of our employees. With the staggering inflation and rising costs of living coming from Washington, I recognize the challenges of buying groceries and gas. I was honored to introduce Shepard Fisher, from Maloney High School in Meiden, who is the Youth Governor for the YMCA's Youth and Government program, which I have hosted for many years.

Thursday was Judiciary again. We dealt with issues including distracted driving (which I see while driving up 84), enticing a juvenal to commit a crime, and my signature issue on gun responsibility prohibiting the conversion of pistols into automatic weapons.

On Friday, I was home for the happy occasion of the investiture of Dr. Jesse Bernal as the 10th president of Western Connecticut State University. Congratulations! I'm looking forward to great actions.

Dr. Jesse Bernal is joined by Governor Lamont as he is invested as the President of WCSU

If you or someone you know requires assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at the Capitol at 1-800-842-1902 or email me at Bob.Godfrey@cga.ct.gov.

Sincerely,

Bob Godfrey
