Dear Neighbor,

First, good news on our state library - after our litigation, pursuant to court order, Institute of Museum and Library Services grants will be reinstated by the federal government. The IMLS brings $2.2 million to Connecticut State Library in our state every year, supporting nearly 9,000 summer reading programs, reaching more than 220,000 children. Federal funds do not directly support public libraries who are funded locally by their municipalities.

Second, alarming news on national vaccine policy, but mitigated by Connecticut.  A panel that advises on U.S. vaccine policy voted on Friday to recommend a delay in when most babies begin to be vaccinated against hepatitis B, overturning a 30-year-old policy that has contributed to a massive decline in cases of the virus.

However, Connecticut has joined a compact with other states to set our own policy.

Many actions taken on the federal level are alarming, but in Connecticut we continue to do what we can to protect our residents.

Enjoy your weekend, and shop local!

Sincerely,

Patricia Dillon
