CTDOT Funding for Ansonia
I am proud to announce new funding for Ansonia through the CTDOT's Community Connectivity Grant Program (CCGP). This program supports local infrastructure initiatives that improve safety and make conditions more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly. The goal of the projects funded through this program is to improve transportation safety and mobility.
In this round of funding through CCGP, Ansonia was awarded $789,000 for a Safe Route to Ansonia Middle School and for segment 8 of the Ansonia Riverwalk. The Safe Route to Ansonia Middle School will be a new path from Grove Street to near the Boys & Girls Club on Howard Avenue, allowing students and families to walk or bike to the school grounds safely. The addition of segment 8 to the Ansonia Riverwalk will continue the Naugatuck River Greenway further into the Valley. This path has become a multipurpose trail system for many communities in the area, and this expansion will give more neighborhoods direct access.
This state funding will help encourage community members to walk and bike around the Valley and feel safer and protected from motor vehicle traffic. These projects will be a great addition to the Ansonia community and ensure residents are safe while traveling, whether walking, biking, or driving.
I will hold my monthly in-person “Coffee with Kara” Event on Friday, November 21st, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.at Valley Diner, 636 New Haven Ave, Derby.
Ansonia and Derby residents are welcome to attend this event. Please feel welcome to come share your thoughts, ask questions, and provide feedback on state policy issues.
