Dear Neighbor,

Happy Juneteenth! Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in our country. This important holiday was unknown to many for several years, but thanks to the tireless work of advocates, it is now rightfully recognized throughout the country.

Although Juneteenth celebrates an important time in our history, we must also take time to reflect on the horrors of slavery and how it impacts us to this day. As your state representative, I will continue to push for legislation that promotes equity and inclusivity.

Below you will find information about Norwalk's Juneteenth celebration last weekend, Connecticut’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol, and more!

Juneteenth Celebration in Norwalk
Norwalk hosted their Juneteenth celebration over the weekend. I was honored to be joined by members of the community to commemorate such an important day in America's history.
Connecticut’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol
Cooling centers, pools, and splash parks will be open as we approach the start of our first extreme hot weather protocol. It will be a brutally hot and humid stretch of weather through  the end of the week, and we all want to ensure that our most vulnerable are protected. Call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org if you do not have air conditioning or a cool place to stay. State agencies, municipalities, and other partners coordinate with the United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location to get some relief.

In addition to dominating on the court, the Sun also make time in the community. Over the summer, the team will offer clinics throughout the state. They will provide young people with the chance to learn new concepts and skills to take their game to the next level. Please see the list below to find a clinic near you.

Improving Housing Opportunities for Residents
Earlier this week, I visited the Homes With Hope diversion office and hub in Norwalk. Homes With Hope is an emergency shelter for men and women that provides several services, such as supportive housing for individuals and families, rapid re-housing, diversion services, a community kitchen, food pantry, youth development programs and mentoring. Thank you for all of the good work you do in the community!

I also joined Governor Lamont for his visit to Meadow Gardens in Norwalk to mark the beginning of the brownfield remediation and building of new homes there for Norwalk residents.
