  • Sat. 4/27 - Bike or hike Rock To Rock 2024. Click here to learn more.
  • New Haven Cleanups:

Edgewood Gazebo 10 AM Saturday
FOOD WASTE WALKING TOUR:

The New Haven Office of Climate & Sustainability invites you to celebrate Earth Day by attending our Walking Tour of Food Scrap Diversion Initiatives in New Haven next Friday, April 26th from 2-4 PM. Food scraps are more than 20% of the City’s waste.  Diverting food scraps from the waste stream will help save the City on disposal fees while reducing climate and air pollution. Learn about local composting initiatives and ideas for diverting more food scraps in New Haven.

We will begin at the Town of Hamden Transfer Station to learn about its ongoing composting work and plans for expanding its composting initiatives. Then we will head to Common Ground High School, where students will give us a tour of the composting facility and you’ll hear from the Office of Climate & Sustainability about programs for co-collection of trash and food scraps that have been set up in other Connecticut cities. We will conclude in Southern Connecticut State University’s new Net Zero Energy Building with a discussion of campus food recovery efforts. Haven’s Harvest will serve some recovered bites and discuss their food rescue programming. We’re excited to talk about food scraps and composting with you! Click here to register.

Sincerely,

Patricia Dillon
