Exciting News for Sleeping Giant State Park

June 30, 2023

Headed into this 4th of July Weekend - Hamden, state residents, as well as trail enthusiasts received some good news as Sleeping Giant State Park was approved for a $2 million Planning and Redevelopment grant by the State Bond Commission.

This funding for Sleeping Giant State Park will be utilized to make further repairs and improvements to the main parking area that was so heavily damaged in a 2018 storm.

Projects will include trailhead improvements, signage, bathroom facilities, roadway work, replacement tree planting, and other park amenities.  Work is also being planned, in conjunction with the Sleeping Giant Park Association, on a new visitor contact station that will provide a place for visitors to orient themselves in the park with maps and other information as well as a location to learn about the Park's natural resources and history.

I hope you enjoy this exciting news headed into this holiday weekend and that you might use some of your time to spend outdoors and visit any of our state parks or any of the 4th of July events and fireworks, which you can find more details for here.
