I met with students, educators, and faculty last week to discuss the importance of getting more funding for higher education. Officials from Connecticut State Colleges and Universities have been urging the governor to boost funding or else the system will face critical shortfalls in the near future.

Students at Eastern Connecticut State University have been writing to legislators, urging them to put more money in the state budget for this important cause. I spoke with them last Thursday at a “Politics, Pens, and Pizza” event, and we discussed how a university education can be a huge step toward a successful career. It was a pleasure meeting all the students involved, hearing their stories, listening to their concerns, and answering their questions.

We must work together to address the financial barriers getting in the way of earning a degree. Every student deserves the best education possible. I will continue to advocate with my colleagues to support funding for our state colleges and universities.
