Funding Request for Arts and Cultural Center

On Friday I toured the old middle school grounds in the Newhall neighborhood with Town Officials, delegation members and DECD Commissioner, Alexandra Daum, to discuss projects included in the Town’s proposed Community Investment Fund (CIF) application.
The Town of Hamden is requesting up to $12 million in bonding through CIF to assist in the construction of an Arts and Cultural Center on the grounds of the old middle school, and demolish the old school, which has sat vacant for 20 years.
 
While touring the grounds, I was able to see the reach an Arts and Cultural Center would have on the area, as it would spark creative economic development to the Newhall neighborhood while also serving the dual goals of environmental justice and improving quality of life.
Once complete, Town Officials say numerous art, historic and educational services will be provided to the community.
