Good News For Our Towns

Tuesday, Sept. 20

Dear Neighbor,

We talk often about the funding needed to keep our small towns at their best, and that’s why I’m so happy to announce that Chester, Deep River, and Essex have been awarded grants through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP).

The Governor has approved the following STEAP grants for our communities:

  • Chester will receive $500,000 in state funding for phase four of the North Main Street Reconstruction Project, matched by $143,200 from the town.
  • Deep River will receive $433,500 in state funding for improvements to Plattwood Park, matched by $100,000 from the town.
  • Essex will receive $500,000 in state funding for improvements to the Essex Civic Campus (near Town Hall, Essex Police Station and the playground on Grove Street), matched by $130,000 from the town.

Chester, Deep River, and Essex were among 77 small towns approved during this round of funding, totaling $31.3 million for infrastructure improvements. The awarded grants will support Connecticut’s small towns in their efforts to expand economic development, community conservation, and quality-of-life capital projects.
