Rep. Delany Legislative Update 4/1
April 1, 2022Greetings Neighbor,
Happy April!
It is the 1st day of April, and I hope the warmer weather has been treating you and your family well.
There was no in-person session in Hartford this week, so I was blessed to be able to spend more time in Stamford speaking with the members of our community on the issues that matter to them.
However, although we did not meet in person. My colleagues and I still met virtually and voted for the issues that are so vital to the well-being of our community.
Over the last week I helped secure almost 7 million dollars in funding for special projects vital to the City of Stamford, I attended a menstrual equity rally to bring awareness to a bill I am co-sponsoring to support the basic needs of the women of CT, and I met with News 12 to help tell our community about the free statewide transportation that is available over the next few months.
If you haven't done so already, I ask that you take some time to fill out my constituent survey, so I can better understand what issues you'd like to see in policy change.
I hope you have a fun and safe weekend!!
Below is a more detailed summary of the actions I took over the last week and the resources available to our community:
STAMFORD SET TO RECEIVE NEARLY $7M IN STATE BOND FUNDING FOR MULTIPLE PROJECTS
Nearly $7 million approved by the State Bond Commission for various projects throughout Stamford.
The state bonding agenda included:
- $2.5 million for the Stamford’s Housing Development Fund to create permanent and affordable homeownership opportunities.
- $2 million for Stamford High School to upgrade its existing baseball field and softball fields as well as add two new fields for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. In addition, the funding will support ADA compliant pathways.
- $1 million for Terry Conners Ice Rink renovations and improvements.
- $950,000 for the Palace Theatre to replace the approximately 800 balcony seats which are the original seats from 1927. The funds will also be used to add accessible seating, install new carpeting, and install new aisle lighting.
- $250,000 for Toquam Magnet Elementary School for the construction of a kindergarten playscape.
- $70,000 for the Boys and Girls Club for security fencing around Yerwood Center.

It was an honor to stand at UConn Stamford with Mayor Caroline Simmons, Rep. Kate Farrar, Rep. Corey Paris, in support of the Menstrual Equity Rally. My colleagues and I are working to pass HB. 5272, an act concerning menstrual products which would require free menstrual products in various settings. We feel that it is necessary policy that supports women and their basic needs. Thank you to the LiveGirls and the Diaper Bank of Connecticut for joining us as well! You can read more about the rally here.
