Gun Violence Survivors Week

February 5, 2022

For decades I have been a strong advocate and proponent of gun responsibility laws in Connecticut. From the Kids and Guns Act, through the assault weapon ban, the response to Sandy Hook, to Ethan's Law, I have kept your safety from gun violence uppermost in mind.

But there must be more support for survivors of gun violence, like Public Act 21-36, which we passed last year.

Gun Violence Survivors Week

Community gun violence is impacting some of our neighborhoods on a daily basis, and often disproportionately among African American men.

Hospital-based violence intervention services play a major role in working with victims and their families in providing positive outcomes.

These workers often intervene in ER waiting rooms, providing grief counseling to families if necessary, or provide services like case management to the victims themselves.

We established specific training requirements for these workers and provide Medicaid reimbursement for their work.
