Newsletter 5/15/21

May 14, 2021
The CDC has released new guidance for fully vaccinated individuals.
In accordance with these guidelines, the State of Connecticut has announced that starting May 19th, fully vaccinated individuals will no longer need to wear masks or face coverings indoors or outdoors.

Fully vaccinated individuals may also resume domestic travel without needing to self-quarantine or to take a COVID-19 test before or after domestic or international travel (unless required by the destination).

It is important to note that a person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks AFTER receiving either a single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or a second dose of a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

All Connecticut residents ages 12 and over are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Children under the age of 17 are only eligible for the Pfizer vaccine and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Schedule
It is easier than ever to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Many locations do not require appointments and often have late or weekend hours to accommodate all schedules. There are also mobile vaccination units deployed throughout the state.

In addition to these new mask guidelines, beginning May 19th, all remaining business restrictions and capacity limits in Connecticut will be lifted.

This is great news for our state and country! If you are not yet vaccinated, I hope that you will register today to ensure the safe re-opening of our state.

PEQUOT LIBRARY TOUR
On Monday, I received a tour of the beautiful Pequot Library. I was lucky enough to receive a person tour of the library’s special collections, which was a real treat. The library currently is home to an exceedingly rare, printed in 1685, Fourth Folio, a collection of William Shakespeare’s comedies, histories, and tragedies to which 7 plays were added. Additionally, the library houses a 1475 cookbook and a bound collection of life-size drawings of “The Birds of America” originally by John James Audubon. We are so lucky to have this gem in our community. From May 18- June 3 the library will be hosting the Fairfield Public Schools AP Art Show featuring artwork created by the talented students of both Fairfield Ludlowe High School and Fairfield Warde High School. Viewing will be by appointment.

FAIRFIELD HIGH SCHOOL VISIT
Our young people fill me with hope for our future. On Friday I had the privilege to join Mrs. Krieger’s Documentary Production course at Fairfield Ludlowe High School and talk with them about their ideas and projects. They had such impressive and thought-provoking topics such as the what is being done to preserve the Long Island Sound, the impact of social media on the developing brain, and a rare neurological condition, experienced by one of the students. It was inspiring listening to them share their ideas. I left Ludlowe with a renewed energy and sense of purpose.

NURSE APPRECIATION
Over the past year, nurses have gone through the unimaginable. They have fought for us, cared for us and our loved ones, been a hand to hold, and even said goodbye for us. They are heroes today and every day. Please join me in thanking the nurses in our community.
