A small business in downtown Waterbury is getting some state support to expand access to fresh, locally grown, and nutritious food for those in need.
The state has awarded Brass City Harvest with $120,000 in funds to source produce from more than 20 Connecticut farms and distribute it in food deserts, neighborhoods where access to affordable, healthy food is limited. By partnering with local farmers and community organizations across our city, Brass City Harvest will improve the health and well-being of families while keeping resources within our local economy.
| In total, the state is investing $1.55 million into a dozen organizations through the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Local Food Purchase Assistance Grant Program. The initiative increases access to food, supports Connecticut farmers, and strengthens our agricultural economy. It’s a win for families, local businesses, and the community. |
