Video: Honoring Wallingford's Championship Teams

May 16, 2025

Thursday was an exciting day in the House Chamber. I joined the Wallingford Delegation in welcoming not one, but TWO Wallingford state championship teams to be recognized on the House Floor.

Two of our local teams achieved remarkable success this past winter season. Sheehan High School’s Girls' Basketball team won the State Class MM Championship, and Lyman Hall High School's Boys' Track team won the Indoor Track State Open Championship and the Connecticut Class M Championship.

Lyman Hall Boys' Indoor Track & Field Class M & State Open Champs

The reigning 2024 Class M Champion Lyman Hall Boys’ Indoor Track & Field Team took the 2025 Class M title in February. With 15 events scored, the team took first place with 110 points, 35 points more than the second-place team, East Lyme.

Top scores came in the 55-meter hurdles, 300 meters, 600 meters, 4 by 400 relay, high jump, long jump, shot put, sprint medley relay, and pole vault.

The team turned around and won the State Open title - something they haven't done since 1993. Lyman Hall finished with 51 points over runner-up Xavier and had two sets of brothers powering the team – the Conklin brothers and the Rich brothers.

Congratulations to: Marcus Burson, Thomas Conklin, Timothy Conklin, Noah Cutler, Lucas DeCrescenzo, Thanh Diep, Christopher Drescher, Evan Dubey, Ahmed Elsaadani, Peter Gournaris, Samuel Haddad, Matteo Lucatino, Logan Michaels, Quinn Murphy, Alan Redford, Finn Reynolds, Aaron Rich, Ethan Rich, Owen Rich, Colin Scalesse, Noah Scalesse, William Schreiber, and Ryan Shipman.

This was the Titans' second state title. The program won its other state title in a 61-45 victory over Ledyard in the 1976 state final.
