Greetings Community!

I was surprised to learn about a link to a member of The Six Triple Eight!

First, the Six Triple Eight consisted of eight hundred fifty-five women, including 10 from Connecticut, who helped sort through millions of undelivered letters and packages mailed to American troops as part of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II.

MAJ/CPT Mary Frances Kearney (Bridgeport/Milford) was one of those women.

I learned during session on Wednesday that I am related to Sheila Kearney, who currently lives in Connecticut, and is a niece of Mary Frances. I was so surprised. What a moment.

You can enjoy it, too, by clicking on the video below.

I was so proud to speak at a press conference honoring The Six Triple Eight last month because I had the utmost respect for the work all of those women did - battling racism, sexism, and more along the way.

In case you missed it, or simply want to re-watch, please click HERE for WTNH's coverage of The Six Triple Eight press conference, which includes comments from Sheila and me about these brave, determined women.

$100K FOR LIVING WORD MINISTRIES

Governor Lamont announced today that his administration is releasing $1.55 million in state grants to 12 entities – including food pantries, community health centers, and nonprofits – for the purposes of purchasing healthy Connecticut Grown products from local farms for distribution to food-insecure populations.

The grants are being released through the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Local Food Purchase Assistance Grant Program. The program aims to increase access to locally grown, healthy food for those in need while also supporting Connecticut farmers and the state’s overall agricultural economy.

Living Word Ministries DBA Vertical Church in West Haven will receive $100,000.

Vertical Church, located at 225 Meloy Rd., will provide weekly boxes of Connecticut-grown produce to thousands of families through a network of food pantries in the Greater New Haven region, increasing access to fresh food during the growing season.

Please feel free to contact me at the Capitol at 1-800-842-8267 or by email at Trenee.McGee@cga.ct.gov if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Trenee McGee
