First, the Six Triple Eight consisted of eight hundred fifty-five women, including 10 from Connecticut, who helped sort through millions of undelivered letters and packages mailed to American troops as part of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II.
MAJ/CPT Mary Frances Kearney (Bridgeport/Milford) was one of those women.
I learned during session on Wednesday that I am related to Sheila Kearney, who currently lives in Connecticut, and is a niece of Mary Frances. I was so surprised. What a moment.
