Dear Neighbor,

On Wednesday, we paid tribute to the 2,996 lives lost on 9/11, the nearly 750 first responders who have lost their lives since 9/11 due to their exposure to the pile and its toxic chemicals, and the countless lives that have been forever changed.

Every year we will make sure to commemorate the people whose lives were stolen from them through these acts of terror and also those heroes who ran into the danger to save lives. I will also always think of all the members of our armed forces who defended our nation and fought the war on terror in the decades following.

We must continue to be resolute in our commitment against terror and for peace. 🇺🇸

In this week's eblast, you can read about an upcoming energy event, great educational opportunities for your children at the Fairfield Museum, and more. You can click the links below to navigate between sections.

Energy Event
A reminder to please join me and the Fairfield delegation Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 5:30-7pm for a forum at the Fairfield Museum & History Center (370 Beach Rd.) on your electric bills.

We will be joined by Marissa Gillett, Chair of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) and Dan Dolan, President of the New England Power Generators Association to discuss why our electric bills are so high, and what can be done about it.

As you've heard me share many times over the past year and particularly the past month, our grid and energy regulation framework is deeply complex. In an effort to find meaningful solutions, I thought it would be helpful to engage with national leaders on how we got here and what can be done. I'm looking forward to hearing from you and for you to hear from us, Chair Gillett, and Dan. I hope to see you there!

Interview on the Lisa Wexler Show
Earlier this week I was interviewed on The Lisa Wexler Show. We had a lovely conversation touching on 9/11, veteran suicide, our families, and housing policy. I hope you will take the time to listen and let me know your thoughts.

You can listen to the interview here.

Scooter and eBike Safety
The Fairfield Police Department has put out an advisory on scooter and e-Bike safety that all residents should look over. While these methods of transportation are fun and environmentally friendly, there are some important safety measures to remember!

Obey Traffic Laws
Any traffic law for other motor vehicles - including riding with traffic, stopping for red lights and stop signs, and signaling - applies to scooters and eBikes.

Helmet Requirements
Riders under 16 must wear helmets, while those over the age of 16 are strongly recommended to.

Reckless Riding
Moves like wheelies, weaving through traffic, and impeding the flow of vehicles are dangerous and could result in citations for reckless use of the highway.

As with all motor vehicles, use scooters and eBikes responsibly! Click here for a closer look at key rules and regulations, safety tips, and more.

National Voter Registration Day Event
A reminder that for National Voter Registration Day, the Fairfield League of Women Voters will host a voter registration event Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 1-5pm at 370 Beach Rd.

This free event will give you a chance to register to vote and learn more about early voting and absentee voting.

The right to vote is one of the most foundational rights of our democracy, and I hope you'll take the chance to get registered and prepared to vote!

Fairfield's Second Annual Oktoberfest
Tomorrow, Sept. 14, Fairfield will be hosting their second annual Oktoberfest from 2-6pm at the FTC & Sanford Street Lots!

This fun event will feature:

  • Live music from Dennis Polisky & Maestro's Men
  • Seasonal beers, local food trucks, and festive food offerings
  • Commemorative Fairfield Oktoberfest t-shirts
For more information, click here. I hope you'll check out this great event in our town!
